According to legend, a devout but impoverished Jain named Shri Uddeshi acquired the idol of Parshwanath and kept it in his granary, worshipping it with great faith. This event led to the idol being named Ghrutkalol Parshwanath. The idol was later installed in a temple in Vikram Samvat 1721, with the current splendid temple constructed and the idol ceremoniously installed on Vaishakh Shukla Ashtami in Vikram Samvat 1896.
