Mulnayak Idol and Temple Details

The Mulnayak idol of Bhagwan Lodhan Parshwanath is a 120 cm-high black-colored idol seated in a semi-Padmasana posture. The idol, crowned with an umbrella of seven hoods, is mesmerizingly crafted and radiates serenity and divine power.

The idol is made of sand (velu), and despite being submerged in water for a long period, it has miraculously hardened like iron. This unique phenomenon has earned the idol its name “Lodhan Parshwanath”, symbolizing its durability and divine nature.

Historical Significance

The history of the Lodhan Parshwanath Temple is steeped in miracles and devotion:

  • Origin Story: Sagardutt Shreshti, a trader, once halted in Darbhavati (ancient Dabhoi) during Chaturmas. Following his mother’s advice, he made an idol of Parshwanath Bhagwan from sand to perform daily Pooja. Upon leaving, he submerged the idol in a well in the city center.
  • Reappearance of the Idol: Years later, Sagardutt returned to Dabhoi for business and dreamt of the idol’s location. With the help of Jain community members and young unmarried girls (Kunwari Kanya), the idol was retrieved using a sieve attached to threads.
  • Guided by Divine Will: The idol was placed on a bullock cart, which moved unguided to its destined location. A temple was built at the spot where the cart stopped, and the idol was installed there.

This miraculous idol is over 600 years old, and its divine impact remains profound. It is also known as Shri Velu Parshwanath, referencing its sand composition. In V.S. 1990, the temple underwent a significant renovation.
