The Idol & Its Uniqueness

  • The Mulnayak (main idol) is a 63 cm high black stone statue of Bhagwan Parshwanath, seated in Padmasana.
  • A striking 7-hooded serpent canopy arches gracefully over the Lord’s head.
  • What makes this idol truly exceptional is the detailed carvings of Dharnendra Dev and Padmavati Devi on both sides of the hood — a rarity not seen in other Jain idols.
  • The idol is lovingly worshipped as “Chintamani Parshwanath”, as it is believed to bring peace and solve life’s worries when prayed to with pure faith.

History & Legends

  • The origins of the site trace back to pre-10th century, with Gupta-era ruins discovered nearby, confirming its ancient significance.
  • Historically, the village was called Toran, named after the four grand gateways (torans) set up by King Janmejay of Nagda during a Naag Yagna.
  • Over time, the ancient city of Toran evolved into what we now know as Unhel.
  • The temple has been renovated multiple times, most recently in V.S. 2020 (approx. 1963 CE), with the pratistha (installation) conducted by Acharya Vijay Vigyansurishwarji.
  • Miraculous events are often associated with this place. Devotees have reported hearing divine music and devotional songs during festival nights — as if celestial beings themselves are performing Aarti.
  • Years ago, nectar (Ami) was seen flowing from the idol’s eyes — a divine occurrence that continued briefly even after being wiped clean.
